Alonzo Bodden Friday @ Tempe Improv
Alonzo Bodden knows what it’s like to be broke. He also isn’t getting any booty.
Sounds familiar? We won’t tell anyone.
The winner of the third season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” is coming to the Tempe Improv this week, and he feels your pain.
“It’s not that I don’t meet women. I meet a lot of women, but I’m not a good closer, so I end up with women friends. Yeah, that’s right – women friends – the most useless group in the world,” Bodden says on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Having a woman as just a friend is like having $19 in the bank and looking at your ATM card.”
Sexist? A little. Funny? You bet.
After beating out some tough competition on “Last Comic Standing” like comedians Ant, Todd Glass, Dave Mordal and Rich Vos, Bodden appeared in “The Girl Next Door,” “Bringing Down the House” and “Scary Movie 4.”
His most recent success comes from the show that gave him his start. Bodden has appeared as a judge on the fifth season of “Last Comic Standing,” scouting comedians from around the world, including where he’ll be performing this weekend – the Tempe Improv.
Here are a few more of your worries Bodden understands:
The classier sports. “I didn’t understand NASCAR until I met some NASCAR fans. Because if you talk to a couple of NASCAR fans you see where a shiny car driving in a circle would fascinate them all day. And I can make fun of NASCAR fans because if they chase me, I just turn right.”
The value of a good education. “I do black/white jokes and I get ‘Alonzo, you’re a racist.’ And I am not a racist. I’m far from it. As a matter of fact, I’m learning to be black from young white kids now. I don’t know when they passed me, but they are officially better at it than I am.”
